Why I Think We Should Watch Our Students When They Practice

I’ve been talking a lot about why I advocate for a style of teaching that uses primarily verbal cues and very little physical demonstration.  This is partly stylistic and evident of my personal priorities in teaching (presence + inquiry rather than physical “correctness”) but it’s something I recommend to all the teachers who study with me. These ideas needed a bit more clarification, so this video will explain my thinking in more depth.

I also answer some questions like:

  • what to do when students are on their phones in Zoom classes

  • some ideas for supporting students who prefer to see asana demonstrated

  • how to help your students be comfortable turning their camera on

  • what I recommend if you are lacking inspiration in your teaching
