Private Virtual Yoga Lessons

A personalized movement practice for your body

I’ll be the first to say that

Group yoga classes may not for every body

I love group yoga classes and continue to teach them, but there are many reasons why it’s difficult to find a group yoga class, or any other movement class, that’s a right fit for you, especially if dealing with a condition like:

  • Limited mobility

  • Hypermobility

  • Scoliosis

  • Disc injury

  • Hip injury

  • Chronic pain

  • Chronic fatigue

  • Pre- or post-natal

A yoga practice should ALWAYS be safe, helpful, and fun. And If you have an injury or other condition, private yoga lessons with a knowledgeable teacher can make it just that.

Private yoga lessons allow us to create a movement practice tailored to your unique needs.

And as your private yoga teacher, I meet you exactly where you are and help you figure out what you need most from the practice.

I believe that your yoga practice should support you, no matter what is going on in your life. It NEVER has to look a certain way (and neither does your body). And because of that, it can change day to day, session to session.

Depending on your needs and interests, I incorporate various aspects of yoga movements and philosophy into each of our sessions, including:

  • Asana - the movement practice that is the base of our lessons

  • Pranayama - breathing exercises and patterns

  • Meditation - a guided practice to help find calm and focus

I’m your private yoga teacher, Francesca Cervero

I’ve been working privately with yoga clients for over 20 years. I have seen over and over the results private lessons can have on those who have physical conditions that can otherwise make traditional yoga group classes unsafe or unhelpful.

In my early teaching days, I suffered a major hip injury myself that required surgery, and lots of healing, without the promise of long-term relief. So I learned all I could about various movement modalities, anatomy, biomechanics, and movement science, as well as Buddhist and Yogic philosophy. With that knowledge and the work I put into my own rehabilitation, I have been able to live without pain in my hip even today.

I know that general yoga group classes are not accessible to everyone - especially if you have an injury or other condition - so I bring all my knowledge and experience to my private yoga lessons to create a unique, tailored practice every time.

You’re personal yoga practice should be safe, helpful, and fun

With private yoga lessons tailored to your specific needs, you can:

Start to live with less pain and more strength and mobility

Establish a mindfulness practice and movement practice that you can access anytime

Be seen, heard and supported by a knowledgeable, compassionate teacher

To create a yoga practice that is uniquely tailored to your needs, here’s how we begin:

#1 - Intake - We start with a robust intake process that covers your history of movement practices, injuries, chronic pain, and current treatments you are trying

#2 - Discovery - We’ll discuss what you are experiencing  in your body now and how you hope it will change

#3 - Private Lessons - We’ll meet virtually for your private yoga lessons on a schedule that works best for you

Private virtual yoga lessons are $140/session

Lessons are 75 minutes/session

What my private yoga students are saying…

"... To be of use to others in a challenging world, you need to be able, in Francesca's words, "to fill your well." This is the precious gift of a private lesson with Francesca: a beautiful, calm, knowledgeable voice guiding you through yoga, breathing and rest each week to renew mind, body and spirit."

— Nina S.

“I decided on private yoga/movement lessons with Francesca over eight years ago, and her guidance has been invaluable. Francesca takes the time to listen to how I'm doing, then magically designs a session to meet my needs. She's nurturing, flexible, patient, and clear in her explanations. Our customized sessions allow me to focus on what I need for my well-being on a particular day, whether restorative or strength-building. I also love how she guides me into poses and introduces new moves as I progress. We have transitioned to online private sessions without a hitch. (Amazingly, she can even see a toe out of alignment online!)”

— Lisa

Until I found Francesca, I lived my life “injury prone.”  Although I tried to be physically active, I was repeatedly hurting myself. When I turned 50, I picked up a heavy suitcase and herniated a disc in my lower back.

For months, I went from doctor to physical therapist to acupuncturist, but my symptoms did not get better. As a physician myself with access to many specialists, I became despondent.  A friend recommended Francesca, and I began working with her.

Francesca changed my life. Through her understanding of the complex brain-body relationship, she was able to retrain my movement patterns: she helped me get the right muscles working, helped me strengthen those muscles methodically, remedying dysfunctional movements:  she taught me how to move into and out of yoga poses safely, and how to do all that without pain.  And she does all this over Zoom in her loving, supportive, intuitive fashion.  She is an artist in her craft.

Francesca is a gem, and I cannot recommend her more completely. I am in my fifth year of working with her weekly one-on-one.

If you have the opportunity to work with Francesca, grab it!  She is gifted. She has the skills of a physical therapist, a personal trainer, a spiritual healer, and a yogi

Private Virtual Yoga Lessons are perfect for you if…

You want to try yoga but need a specialized practice because of an injury or other condition

You’d like to have a tailored movement practice you can do on your own

You’re seeking a yoga practice that you can do at home on a schedule that works for you

You might be wondering “Is private yoga taught virtually as effective as in-person lessons?”

Absolutely!

Since 2020, I have been teaching virtually almost exclusively, and it works incredibly well.

This is in part because of my particular style of teaching. Rather than doing the practice with you and teaching through demonstrations (which I will still do on occasion when/if necessary), my teaching is through verbal cues

When I was teaching in person, I would sit facing my clients and talk them through the movements and poses, so making the transition to virtual teaching didn’t affect my private yoga students at all.

I spend lots of time with you initially to help you figure out how to set up your camera and your space so I can see you well on my computer screen. With the proper camera setup, I can see you and your practice super well, and I actually can see more because of my point of view.

PLUS,  because my teaching is virtual, I can work with you no matter your physical location.

Are you thinking “I’m too tight/weak/injured/undisciplined to practice yoga”

A yoga student on a yoga mat in child's pose.

I get it. But nothing could be further from the truth!

I believe that your yoga practice should support you, no matter what is going on in your life. You don’t have to show up in any particular way. You don’t have to look or move in any particular way. Your body doesn’t need to be anything other than what it is right now.

I’ve worked with private yoga clients for 20+ years and I have an extensive knowledge of the body and how it moves as well as a variety of healing movement modalities. So even if you show up with an injury or what seems like a limitation, I know how to address it AND create a practice just for you and where you are right now.

I’m here to support you.

When you’re ready to begin, fill out the contact form below, and I’ll be in touch.

Once I receive your information, we’ll schedule a time to chat more about your current situation and goals and see if working together is the right fit.

Still have questions? Let me give you some clarity

  • I am happy to be flexible with your schedule and budget, and we can discuss your personal situation on our initial call. Most of my students see me for a weekly standing appointment.

  • If you are interested in creating a very short home practice that you do most days, that’s something that we can absolutely work on in our sessions together, but if you don’t do any yoga outside of our sessions, that's totally ok. Working with me once a week on its own will bring lots of benefits.

  • The one yoga props that I highly recommend, and that are hard to substitute, are cork yoga blocks. I have a strong preference for cork yoga blocks rather than other materials because they are heavier and more stable and, therefore, more supportive.

There are other yoga props that are helpful to have but that are easy to substitute with items around your house. Couch cushions, beach towels, and tennis balls are all items my clients utilize regularly in our sessions together.

  • Private yoga lessons are typically 75 minutes per session. However, I do occasionally teach 60 or 30 minute sessions for my existing clients based on their needs.

  • The minimum  you need in your house is really just a space big enough to lay down your yoga mat. But a space where you can have your computer roughly six feet away from your mat is ideal. This is a set up I recommend.

  • I’ll say this: Everyone is welcome. The thing about yoga is that it’s a practice where it’s not only ok to have but also welcomes the distractions of regular life. I believe that your yoga practice should support you, no matter what is going on in your life.

You don’t have to show up in any particular way. You don't have to have a lot of energy.. You don't have to have a quiet house. You are not only invited, but welcomed to practice in the middle of your imperfect, messy life.

AND it’s also ok if you want to create a bit more of a quiet and secluded space for yourself and your practice. I support that as well.

  • Absolutely. I have been teaching exclusively online since 2020. I work with some people that I have never met in person who have had really profound, significant benefits and evolution in their practice. With the proper camera setup, I can see you and your practice very well, and I actually see more because of my point of view. And because my style of teaching (for over 20 years) is cue-based rather than demonstration-based, virtual yoga sessions are really ideal.

  • I have worked, and continue to work, very closely with physical therapists and surgeons (and I really love those partnerships), and I am well equipped to work with someone as soon as they are cleared for movement by their doctor. We can discuss your specific situation during our intake process.

  • I do not diagnose or treat specific injuries or conditions. What I am able to do in our sessions is to help you create a yoga practice that is very uniquely tailored to your needs. I will often incorporate pieces of a client’s physical therapy practice into our work together as appropriate.

And we’re also able to do so much more than a physical therapy session because yoga practice is so vast and there’s a lot to it. We also have more time in a private yoga session than a physical therapy session. We have 75 minutes, and we usually work together weekly, so we don’t have to rush and we can really take our time. And since we tend to work together over a much longer period of time, I can get to know your movement and breathing patterns and create more tailored sessions.

Let’s work together.
